What does the sky look like right now?

This wheel is a map of the sky right now. The twelve signs form the ring and run counterclockwise, and each point sits at its degree inside its sign. Lines across the center join the pairs in the closest aspects. With a location, ASC marks the Ascendant, the point of the zodiac rising in the east, and DSC the Descendant, the point setting in the west. MC is the Midheaven, where the zodiac crosses your north-south line overhead. The disc at the center gives the Sun's height above the horizon. The table lists the same positions.

At 16:28 UTC on November 3, 2026, the Sun is at 11°15′ Scorpio and the Moon is at 4°30′ Virgo. The Moon's phase is Waning Crescent, with 30 percent of its disc lit. Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are retrograde. Chiron is also retrograde. The Moon enters Libra at 14:38 UTC on November 5, 2026. All positions are tropical and geocentric, as seen from Earth.

AstroJane Live Sky shows where the Sun, Moon and planets are right now in the tropical zodiac. The browser calculates the positions, the Moon phase, the retrograde planets and the aspects from your device clock and refreshes them every 30 seconds. Share your location to add your local horizon, sunrise and sunset. The coordinates stay in this tab, rounded to two decimal places, and are not stored or sent.

Where are the planets right now?

Tropical positions at 16:28 UTC on November 3, 2026: the sign, degree and direction of each point as seen from Earth. Direct means moving forward through the zodiac. The lunar nodes and Lilith are calculated mean points, and this table gives them no direction.

Which aspects are active?

An aspect is a set angle between two points in the sky, such as 90 degrees for a square. The orb is how far a pair sits from that exact angle, up to 8 degrees here, and the closest pairs come first.

How positions are calculated

At a glance

Zodiac
Tropical: counted from the March equinox, so the signs follow the seasons rather than the constellations.
Positions
Geocentric and apparent, as seen from Earth.
Houses
Whole Sign: each sign is one house, counted from the rising sign. Shown after you share a location.
Times
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) until you share a location, then your device time zone.
Refresh
Every 30 seconds in your browser. The snapshot the page opens with is renewed at most every 15 minutes.
Nodes and Lilith
Mean positions for the North Node, South Node and Black Moon Lilith.

Common questions

How long does the Moon stay in one sign?

The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, so it stays in each sign for a little over two days. It can change sign during a calendar day. The change happens at one moment worldwide, but the local date can differ, so this page prints the time in UTC until you share a location.

What does retrograde mean, and how often is Mercury retrograde?

A planet is retrograde when it appears to move backward against the stars as seen from Earth. Nothing in its orbit reverses: Earth and the planet are passing each other. Mercury does this about three times a year, for about three weeks each time. In astrology, a retrograde planet's themes are linked with review, delay and second looks.

What are the Moon phases, and how long is the cycle?

The Moon passes through eight named phases in about 29.5 days. The four principal phases are the new Moon, first quarter, full Moon and last quarter. This page lists the current phase and the next four principal phases, each with a date and time.

Are these positions tropical or sidereal?

These positions use the tropical zodiac, counted from the March equinox. The signs follow the seasons rather than the constellations. Sidereal zodiacs, used in Vedic astrology, currently sit about 24 degrees behind, so a planet can fall in a different sign there.

How often does the page update, and what does live mean?

The browser recalculates the positions from the device clock every 30 seconds, and again when you return to the tab. The server keeps a dated copy of the page, renewed when visitors come, at most every 15 minutes. Positions are a calculation rather than a data feed, so they are only as right as the device clock.

How accurate are the positions?

The Sun, Moon and planets come from the astronomy-engine library, and Chiron from a JPL Horizons table. Tests at 124 instants from 1878 to 2035 compare them with JPL Horizons: the Sun agrees within 3 arcseconds, the Moon within 8 and the planets within 20. Moon phases and rise and set times match US Naval Observatory tables within 40 seconds.
